This top-15 list covers some of the best Korean dramas of all time, based on viewership data and overall popularity. 1. The Descendants of the Sun
Descendants of the Sun was a great smash when it first aired on television. It garnered over 40% of the vote and was nominated for many KBS drama awards. Because the series was created before it broadcast, the storyline could not be extended based on viewer numbers. This, it appears, is why it was canceled after only 16 episodes, despite its huge popularity.
A lady who leads a medical team that saves the lives of soldiers of a hidden special forces unit is the focus of this love story. The story takes set in Uruk, a fictional war-torn kingdom. On a daily basis, both the protagonist and the unit's captain are confronted with life-or-death scenarios. Will they pursue love and risk heartbreak in the midst of it all?
The series is rounded out by an excellent cast, a lovely soundtrack, a fantastic storyline, and fantastic chemistry between the protagonists. It's safe to say that no Korean drama fan will be disappointed. I enjoyed the romance in the series, and it also gave me a rare peek into the sacrifices made by our real-life doctors and servicemen. Descendants of the Sun, in my opinion, deserves all of the accolades and attention it has received.
2. My Love from the Stars/You Who Came from the Stars
If you like fantasy melodramas, you should definitely check this one out. This drama rocked the globe, not just Korea, when it initially aired. The science fiction film My Love from Another Star (also known as You Who Came from the Stars) is about a centuries-old alien with superhuman talents. He's been stranded on Earth for a long time and now works as a university lecturer. All he wants to do is get home, but everything changes when he meets a well-known actress.
This K-drama gives me everything I could possibly want. It features believable and compelling leads, a wicked villain, romance, humor, melodrama, and time travel all bundled into one in 21 must-see episodes. My Love from the Star will appeal to fans of science fiction, teleportation, and time travel. Each of these concepts is presented in a visually attractive way. Because of the excellent chemistry between the two performers and the series' distinct sense of humor, I kept watching until the finish.
3. The Ascendants
The Heirs is a compelling drama that tells the story of star-crossed lovers Kim Tan and Go Eun Sang. Kim Tan is the affluent heir to the Empire Group. He travels to the United States to further his education. While staying in the United States, he meets Go Eun Sang, who came to the country with her sister in quest of a better life. Tan meets Sang when she is at a low period in her life. Because his heart aches for her, he decides to take her to his home in Korea. Things get a little more complicated when we find that Eun Sang's mother works as a housekeeper at Tan's home. There are still more surprises in store for you.
The plot isn't particularly creative, but it offers a fresh take on a movie that everyone has seen a million times. It appeals to me because it is both romantic and tragic in equal measure, and it is current, youthful, quirky, amusing, and romantic and tragic in equal measure. It's a good show to watch on a cold day when you want to stay warm.
4. Do Bong as soon as possible, Strong Woman
If you're still looking for a delightful drama with romantic comedy and darker crime undertones, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon should be your next watch (and boasts lovely protagonists with incredible levels of cuteness). This program is led by a strong heroine and an adoring, romantic hero.
On the surface, Do Bong Soon appears feeble and little, but she is a powerful woman who received her influence from female family members. She is terrified of being classified as strange, so she wants to keep this a secret. One day, Ahn Min Hyuk, the CEO of a game company, witnesses her skills. The man is intrigued by her and is drawn to her. He is threatened with death shortly after, so he hires the girl as his bodyguard.
5. Respected Woman
If you want a strong and fast-paced mature drama with superb acting, dialog, and hilarious flourishes, you should watch this melodrama. The plot of Woman of Dignity is set in the life of an affluent family. The elegant Woo Ah-comfortable Jin's existence, which she enjoys thanks to her affluent father-in-law, begins to break apart with the arrival of the new caretaker for the wealthy man. Park Bok-Ja, the new caregiver, is an impoverished woman. She enters the family with one goal in mind: to become a member of the family and, once and for all, to rise above the lower classes.
The fact that this story included two female leads initially drew me in. There are, however, a slew of supporting characters, each with their own compelling story to tell. I like that the series concentrated on non-romantic human interactions and real societal themes rather than male-female romance (as many K-dramas do).
6. Pinocchio
Do you want to see a drama with a complicated storyline? If you watch it, you'll be shocked at how much it manages to squeeze into just 20 episodes. The narrative of Pinocchio is about a man who has been wronged by a harsh reporter. Only vengeance occupies the man's thoughts. Suddenly, he develops affections for his adversary's daughter. When she lies, the girl has "Pinocchio syndrome," which causes her to hiccup. She is virtually always forced to disclose the truth as a result of this.
I didn't want this K-drama to end since it was so gripping and well-made. I was initially drawn to see it because of the major topic, which is still relevant today in the age of fake news and misleading headlines. However, in retrospect, my favorite components of it were the characters' painful maturation, their thought-provoking decisions, and their entirely unexpected behaviors.
